The species I breed comes from the islands of New Caledonia. New Caledonia gecko's lead a night-time, arboreal lifestyle, they are omnivorous. Most popular are ciliates geckos, but gargoyle geckos, mossy and giant geckos are constantly growing clusters of followers. Care for these geckoes is relatively simple: they prefer low temperatures and can be fed with complete feeds available on the market.
Gargoyle gecko is the second (after the ciliatus) most preferred species of the former genus Rhacodactylus. Gargoyle geckos have barrel-shaped silhouettes, horned heads and long muzzles with raised noses. They are a bit like miniature crocodiles crossed with ornamental roofs with himers. Within the species there is a natural polymorphism – individuals differ in form and color, which is a big field for breeders. Gargoyle geckos are exceptionally fond of sugary foods, which makes them usually willing to eat ready-to-eat geckos and many of them have been ignoring insects since childhood – so they are a great choice for people who do not like to keep their live food. Their narrow slats do not make it easy to climb the glass and other smooth surfaces, so they are less soiled than other goat geckos. Usually they are calm and well tolerated contact with the carer.
